How this page works, and how to make it yours

For a book that has to earn its price

People buying a practical book want to know what is inside, whether the author knows the subject and whether it will change anything. Book Launch shows the book as an object with a standing 3D cover, then lets readers look inside: chapter topics, an excerpt, results from readers, a free first chapter and editions side by side.

It suits business books, cookbooks, practical handbooks, ebooks with worksheets and paid reports. Choose it when the book is the product.

The free first chapter is doing more than it seems. Most visitors to a book page are not ready to pay on their first visit, and a chapter in their inbox keeps the conversation going. Readers who finish it arrive back on the page already convinced, and the editions table then only has to help them choose a format.

How the page sells the book

The hero puts the promise beside the cover, “Sell to people who hate being sold to”, with the subject, page count and a buy button. Inside lists every chapter with a one-line summary and what the worksheet does.

The excerpt quotes a strong passage so readers can judge the writing. Reviews are from readers with measurable results. Free chapter offers the first chapter by email, capturing readers who are not ready to buy.

Editions compares ebook, hardcover and bulk options with what each includes. About the author establishes credibility with specific experience, a buy strip repeats the starting price and delivery times, and questions covers who the book is for and refunds.

Making it yours

Four schemes are included: Reader blue, Library green, Red pencil and Black ink. Headings can be Hanken Grotesk, Familjen Grotesk or Literata. Five images are used: the cover, the author and interior spreads.

Chapters, editions and the excerpt are editable. Select the chapters section and ask the AI to summarise each from your table of contents.

Writing it for your book

You can start from the template for free, or have the AI write your copy for about 20 credits while keeping the layout. Include the book’s promise, chapter list, an excerpt, reader results, editions and prices, the author’s credentials, the free chapter offer and delivery times.

Material a book page needs

A book sells on what is inside it and on the author’s credibility, so gather those first. Write a one-line promise for each chapter that says what the reader will be able to do, not just the topic. Choose an excerpt of one or two paragraphs that stands on its own and shows how the book sounds. The free first chapter needs to be ready as a file, with a decision on what happens to email addresses afterwards, stated plainly next to the form.

The editions section should show each format with its price including tax, what it contains, such as worksheets or audio, and how it is delivered. Reader reviews work best from people who describe a result, with their name, role and photo shared with permission. The author section needs a portrait and a short bio focused on the experience the book draws on. If the book is also sold through retailers, decide whether to link to them or sell only direct. Five photographs are used, including the cover as a 3D object, so export a high-resolution cover and one image of the author at work.

If you plan updates or a second edition, say whether existing buyers receive it. For practical handbooks and reports that date quickly, free updates can be the deciding reason to buy direct rather than elsewhere.

Cookbooks, handbooks and reports

A cookbook can replace chapters with sections of recipes and use the excerpt for one full recipe with a photograph. Practical handbooks and guides with worksheets can show a sample worksheet. Paid reports usually add methodology, the number of respondents or data sources, and a table of contents. A course-in-a-book can pair each chapter with a short video lesson and price the editions accordingly.

When another template fits better

Book Launch sells a finished book. A live course with cohorts fits Learning Platform, and a publication or newsletter with an editorial feel belongs on Broadsheet Editorial. A book still being printed can take pre-orders on Pre-order Launch, and self-paced video courses sell better on Online Courses Daylight.
